Lets Meet………..

Lets Meet is a series of 10 minute interviews with the faces and people that matter when marrying abroad. In our first interview, we meet Charone Frederic, the wedding co-ordinator at the Le Victoria Hotel in Mauritius.

How long have you been employed by the hotel: 4 years

How long have you been the Wedding Co-ordinator: 3 years

What do you regard as the most fun / enjoyable part of your job:

From my point of view, all the organizational part of it. Dealing with the couple and feeling that we are making a childhood dream coming true for the Bride, makes me feel good.

What has been the most challenging request from a wedding couple and how did you over come it ?

What can be very challenging is when the bride or groom change things at the last minute. It takes time to get things in order and ready, and then if they come to me again with another idea  you have to do a lot of re organizing within a crucial time limit.

What has been the most special wedding you have organised ?

There are 2 memorable Weddings that I have organized. First an elderly couple around 70 years old from South Africa , who had known each other since childhood, but life separated them for different reasons. However after living their respective lives and having their own families, they met again after many years and even after all those years, they still loved each other and had the wish to get married. The wedding ceremony itself was very simple but with a very strong & deep atmosphere .

The 2nd one was for a couple from the Czech Republic who were deaf and dumb. We had to find a person who did sign language. All I remember that day was that everybody was in tears – the waiters, the Civil Officer, myself and of course the Couple. It was just wonderful !

What do you think makes your hotel stand out from above the rest ?:

At Le Victoria, we have a good mixture of clients, from honeymooners, and families to corporate guests and retired guests too. This gives a good vibe to the hotel all year round. Also in terms of rooms we have the biggest standard rooms on the island and not a lot of hotels can accommodate 2 adults & 2 children in one room.

What do you do to make the bride and groom feel special ?

We just try our best to please them. Sometimes they find it strange that we are always smiling and helping and it seems people from other countries are not used to this. Just being what we are makes them special.

What would be your favourite flower in a wedding bouquet ?

My favourite flower is the Frangipanis

What would be your top tips for a bride and groom getting married in your resort ?

I have noticed that when a wedding couple has emailed us prior to their arrival with loads of questions, they know what to expect and we already have an idea of what they want. Therefore my Top Tip is to ask us as many questions as you can before arriving so that we are prepared as much as possible for your arrival and wedding.

What would you suggest to a wedding couple to make their day so special that they would never forget it?

The most important point is to express all their wishes and requests even if  they think it is stupid or impossible during the wedding planning meeting with us, because if the Wedding Coordinator is aware of every little point, she will do her best to make the dream come true
